Xinjiang Oil Province

Xinjiang Oil Province is located in the Junggar Basin in northern Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, where Karamay Oilfield, China’s first large oilfield, was discovered. The total oil and gas resources in Junggar have reached 10.7 billion tons, including 8.68 billion tons of oil and 2.5 trillion cubic meters of gas.
Xinjiang oil province is China's second largest heavy oil production base. In Fengcheng oilfield, which owns the largest uncompartmentalized heavy oil reservoir ever discovered in China, effective stimulation measures such as steam injection, SAGD and in-situ combustion have been taken since 2005 to boost heavy and ultra heavy oil production.
As exploration going to the basin's hinterland, three one-million-ton uncompartmentalized desert oilfields of Cainan, Shixi and Luliang were successfully discovered and put into production.
