Huabei Oil Province

Huabei Oil Province, located in the northern part of the Huabei Plain, geologically belongs to Jizhong depression of the Bohai Bay Basin, mainly of buried-hill and Tertiary types. The oil province produces low-gravity, low-sulfur and low-colloid asphaltic crude oil, as well as high-gravity, high-sulfur, and high-colloid asphaltic crude oil.

On July 4, 1975, a high-yield oil flow was obtained in well Ren-4 from Mesopeozoic buried hill carbonate reservoir, marking the discovery of the Renqiu Oilfield. Development of the Renqiu Oilfield began in September of the same year. By 1977, a group of buried hill oilfields had been discovered in Jizhong depression, laying the foundations for the mass development of Huabei Oil Province. Presently, Huabei Oil Province has an annual crude oil production capacity of 4.5 million tons. In 2009, China’s first digital CBM demonstration project was built in the Qinshui Basin, Shanxi Province.
