Introduction
Dushanzi Petrochemical's 10Mt/a Refinery and 1Mt/a Ethylene project consists of a cluster of plants.
 
In addition to utilities, it includes a 10Mt/a distillation, a 2Mt/a hydrocracking, a 3Mt/a diesel hydrogenation, a 1.2Mt/a delayed coking, and other six refining units; and a 1Mt/a ethylene, a 900kt/a polyethylene, a 550kt/a polypropylene, and other eight units for chemical production.
 
The RMB 30billion-cost units, covering an area of 455 hectares, are mainly used to process sour crude oil imported from Kazakhstan.
The largest integrated refining and chemical project in China equipped with world-leading technologies

The project was approved by the State Council in February 2005, and launched in August, 2005. Thousands of workers have been engaged in the grueling installation construction lasting for more than 3 years since June 2006. Commissioning run tests for the 10Mt/a refining and the 1Mt/a ethylene units commenced on August 28 and September 21, 2009, respectively, both succeeded at the first trial.

This ever largest integrated refining and chemical project in China boasts a central control of the units. With world-leading technologies, it produces Euro-IV compliant refined products and mostly high-performance chemical products.

Before the units becoming operational, Dushanzi Petrochemical had 6Mt/a refining and 220kt/a ethylene capacity with 48 major plants. Fuel oil, aromatics, petroleum acids and salts, polyolefins, alcohols, and rubbers were among its portfolio of more than 380 petrochemical products. In 2008, the company processed 4.46 million metric tons of crude oil and produced 259,000 metric tons of ethylene. The inaugurated 10 Mt/a refining and 1Mt/a ethylene units makes the company capable to process 15 million
 

metric tons of crude and produce 1.2 million metric tons of ethylene a year. Every year, 6.17 million metric tons of refined products and 2.95 million metric tons of chemical products will be supplied to the society. All these products will significantly expedite the birth of an industrial cluster in the surrounding area, which will involve fine chemicals, new materials, and other downstream petrochemicals. Even Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region will enjoy its benefits to economic development and industrial upgrading.
