China Green Carbon Fund

As one of the initiators, CNPC worked with the State Forestry Administration to establish the China Green Carbon Fund to promote tree planting to reduce carbon dioxide in the air and improve the environment. The foundation was set up in Beijing on July 30, 2007.

The foundation has received 300 million RMB from CNPC for planting, forestry management and the construction of forests for energy. It is estimated that the trees planted will absorb five to ten million tons of carbon dioxide in the coming decade.

Sponsorship of Polar Exploration

In December 2004, CNPC sponsored the conquest of Dome A in the South Pole by the 21st Chinese South Pole Exploration Team through PetroChina Lubricant Company. CNPC offered the team 15 million RMB and covered the expenses for all the oil of its vehicles.

The Kunlun Exploration Team spent 63 days covering 3,078 kilometers. When they arrived at the Dome A area, they got data about the highest spot as well as the average temperature in the area.

In the exploration, two Kunlun Lubricant products, CI-4/SL 0W/30 and CI-4/SL 5W/5 did an impressive job. Powered by CI-4/SL 0W/30, the exploration vehicles ran smoothly in the temperature of minus 48 degrees, with four getting to Dome A.
