Education 
Donation to education is a traditional virtue in China and an effective way of building a healthy society. We undertook campaigns in 2007 to donate to the construction of schools, set up CNPC scholarships and supported poor students and teachers. The total amount of donations reached RMB 89,235,300.


Hope Project

To support the Hope Project, CNPC launched the "CNPC's Love for Hope of our Country" campaign, in which donations of over 11 million RMB were made by 1.22 million people.

With these donations, eight Hope schools were built in poor regions and funds were given to a number of other Hope schools for three consecutive years. CNPC's subsidiaries also helped to build 149 Hope schools.

CNPC Scholarships

In 2002, CNPC set aside 30 million RMB to establish the CNPC Scholarship Foundation, which offers financial support to outstanding college students. By the end of 2006, the foundation had supported 2,962 undergraduates and postgraduates in 16 universities.

Donation to the "New Great Wall Action for College Students"
and the "Spring Rain Project"


CNPC plays an active part in the "New Great Wall Action for College Students", a program initiated by the Chinese Poverty-Relief Foundation which aims to provide financial assistance, development support and employment guidance to college students with financial difficulties. In 2006, the company donated 1 million RMB to the program. In October 2007, the company donated an education fund of RMB 500,000 to China Poverty Alleviation Foundation.

In November 2007, the company provided financial support to the "Spring Rain Project" public welfare campaign, which aimed at allowing children to receive education in modern information and donated RMB 1 million to the Chinese International Science & Exchange Foundation which was used for the construction of 20 technical aid stations.


Donations to "Oasis Action"

The Oasis Action is an all Chinese charity campaign jointly initiated by China Green Foundation, National Afforestation Environmental Protection Committee, Chinese Educators Association of Macau, Hong Kong Federation of Education Workers and Beijing People's Broadcasting Corporation. A total of RMB 800,000 has been donated by CNPC to aid students living in poverty in desert and arid areas of eight provinces and autonomous regions in West China, and to improve the teaching conditions of local schools.

Support for Education in Sudan

CNPC invested in several primary schools in Sudan through its subsidiaries there. Khartoum Refinery spent 300,000 USD building a 1,024 square meter primary school for the children of Sudanese staff. The Sudan 3/7 Project built two schools near the oilfield, while the 1/2/4 Project helped with the construction of up to 22 schools, giving 65,000 children the chance to go to school. In addition, the project provided financial assistance to 222 schools to improve their facilities. BGP, a subsidiary of CNPC, set aside 500,000 USD to establish the Geophysical R&D Center with Khartoum University. CNLC, another subsidiary of CNPC, donated 100,000 USD to Khartoum University for a lecture hall and also provided teaching equipment worth 30,000 USD.

Support for Education in Kazakhstan

On September 27, 2004, CNPC signed an agreement on "Cooperation in the Area of Education" with the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, according to which CNPC pledged to provide 1.35 million USD to the ministry to set up the "Presidential Scholarship" to finance outstanding Kazakh students studying in China for bachelor degrees.

CNPC-AktobeMunaiGas set aside 2 million USD as an education fund for students in Aktobe. So far, the foundation has financed the studies of 65 Kazakh students in Chinese universities and 11 in Kazakh and Russian universities. It also set up a summer camp which can deal with 120,000 children annually.
