In view of the urgent need for satellite communication systems required to ensure coordinated rescue activities and smooth information transmission to and from state leaders and the National Headquarters for Earthquake Disaster Control, CNPC provided 18 T-700 maritime satellite phones to support the earthquake emergency command team on May 13, 2008. These satellite phones were purchased earlier by CNPC International Department for overseas projects.
It is reported that these maritime satellite phones have played an important role in rescue communications in earthquake-hit areas.
