Operation of CNPC's subsidiaries in Sichuan almost recovered
Text Size:[Larger][Medium][Smaller]

Due to the Wenchuan earthquake, 58 of Chuanqing Drilling & Exploration Corporation's 75 rigs in Sichuan and Chongqing were forced to stop drilling, four were off stream, and all operations including pre-drilling engineering, geophysical prospecting and surface construction were shut down. Southwest Oil and Gas Field Company took immediate measures to shut down wells, and reduce or stop gas transportation, in order to eliminate potential threats to pipelines.

In order to meet the needs of quake relief, all CNPC's subsidiaries in Sichuan including Chuanqing Drilling & Exploration Corporation and Southwest Oil and Gas Field Company worked hard to resume production.

By 5pm on May 19, daily output of natural gas from oil and gas fields in Sichuan was restored to 99% of pre-earthquake levels.
