Training

We attach importance to developing a high-quality workforce who can adapt to our efficient operations and rapid growth. We pay attention to nurturing advanced managerial talent, selecting excellent managerial staff and technical professionals for further training in renowned universities both at home and abroad. At the same time, we encourage technical professionals to continue their engineering education and we actively conduct training programs for our operational staff.

We have 10 local and specialized training bases throughout China, which provide advanced training to several hundred thousand CNPC personnel annually. Programs include courses in enterprise management, international operations and related fields for mid-level managers; training in new technologies and information for specialized technical personnel; and courses in specific job skills and related technical areas for operational personnel. The "CNPC International Talent Training Center" was opened in 2006, marking the official launch of the "International Talent Training Program".

We also attach great importance to personnel training in our overseas operations, offering courses in management, new technologies and job skills to personnel recruited overseas. Along with the rapid growth of our international business, we carry out talent localization to enhance our integration with local communities and cultures. In Sudan, we hire many local people and presented awards to the "CNPC Top Ten Sudanese Employees" in 2006.

We enable employees at all levels to find their best way of learning. In 2006, we spent 900 million RMB training 760,000 employees. By enhancing training for managerial, technical and operational staff, we have trained a large number of high-level talents and optimized the knowledge structure and overall quality and skills of our employees.

In 2007, CNPC continued training its managerial and technical professionals in management and innovation capabilities. As part of a newly established technician training system, we trained 140,000 regular technicians, senior technicians and operators, most of whom were primary frontline professionals and highly skilled workers. In 2007, we also trained 3,293 national experts, corporate experts, key frontline professionals and key engineers on new petroleum and petrochemical theories and methodologies.

CNPC focused on fostering international talents who have expertise, good management skills, experience in international operations and good foreign language skills. We provided project management and international business training to 370 senior and key management teams of overseas projects. By 2007, we had 237 certified Project Management Professionals (PMP).
