| | | | CNPC actively utilizes domestic and international scientific and technological resources and encourages the free exchange of ideas and cooperation within the corporation. CNPC invests heavily in fundamental research and development to strengthen its technological expertise. These R&D developments have given CNPC substantial technical and competitive advantages.
Long-term technological research relationships have been established with the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Tsinghua University, Peking University and many other institutions. CNPC has also established research and development organizations for joint technological development with a number of research and corporate institutions. CNPC has also conducted joint research with organizations and universities in the USA, Canada, Great Britain, France and Russia.
CNPC actively participates in regular international petroleum academic exchanges and invites over 100 overseas experts in the field to China annually for technical exchanges.
In 2007, CNPC received four National Science and Technology Advancement Prizes. These included:
 The first-class prize for "Geological Theory, Prospecting Technology, and Major Discoveries in the Large-area of Lithostratigraphic Reservoirs with Mid-to-low Abundance"
The second-class prize for the "Efficient Development and Matching Technologies for Complex Subsalt Carbonate Reservoirs in the Kenkijak Oilfield in Kazakhstan"
The second-class prize for the "Research and Application of New Technologies for Reservoir Protection and Reforming During Exploration and Development"
The second-class prize for the "Research and Application of Key Technologies for New High-performance Strapdown Inertial Measurement Device"
