Apr. 08 CNPC Pipeline Company held a launch ceremony at Milit for its western Libya pipeline construction project. Apr. 24 PetroChina Company Limited, a holding subsidiary of CNPC, purchased the 50% interest held by Amerada Hess Indonesia Holing Ltd., a subsidiary of Amerada Hess in Indonesia, of Indonesia's Jabung Block PSC, making its interest in this block increase to 45%.
May May 12 CNPC won the bidding for the integrated project of oilfield development, refineries construction and operation, and marketing in Adar, Algeria. May 28 CNPC and Russian oil major YUKOS signed an agreement that lays out the basic principles of their China-Russia crude oil pipeline and long-term crude marketing project.
June Jun. 03 CNPC and KazMunaiGaz, the state oil company of Kazakhstan, and the Kazakh Ministry of Finance's Committee on State Assets and Privatization signed an agreement concerning expanding CNPC's investment in Kazakhstan's oil and gas sectors.

Jul. 31 CNPC discovered a world-class large oilfield in Melut Basin at Block 3/7, Sudan, with recoverable reserves of 600 million barrels. Jul. 31 Zhaodong joint block, a joint development block between PetroChina and US firm Apache, was put into production.
August Aug. 28 The production capacity construction project of Kela 2 gasfield, the gas resource field for the West-East Pipeline, was initiated, indicating that the upstream construction of the WEP project entered the key implementation stage. Aug. 28 The Zhongxian-Wuhan pipeline was started in Wuhan, Hubei Province. It is another long-distance gas pipeline following China's West-East Pipeline. The total length of this pipeline is 1347.3 kilometers with a truck line length of 718.9 kilometers and an annual throughput capacity of 3 billion cubic meters. Aug. 28 CNPC signed three petroleum cooperation agreements with the Sudanese Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources in Khartoum, the capital of Sudan. Aug. 29 CNPC signed a Petroleum Cooperation Agreement with the Energy and Mine Ministry of Ecuador and Petroecuador in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province.
September Sept. 04 An important discovery was made in Qaidam Basin, with well Mabei 1, which is located on the north edge of Qaidam Basin, acquiring a high oil flow from the Tertiary strata. Sept. 04 PetroChina's Changqing Oilfield Company drilled another high-yield gas well in Ordos Basin - well Yu 37, with a daily gas flow capacity of 226,000 cubic meters.
October Oct. 01 The east section of West-East Pipeline was completed and natural gas from the Changqing field was sent to Shanghai Municipality. On October 7, natural gas from the Changqing field arrived in Shanghai. Oct. 14 CNPC purchased a 100% interest in Chevron Texaco North Buzachi Inc. (TNBI) to develop the North Buzachi field in Kazakhstan.
November Nov. 10 CNPC signed two agreements with the government of Niger in Niamey, the capital of Niger, acquiring the petroleum exploration and development licenses for the Nigerien Tenere and Bilma blocks. Nov. 14 The Feasibility Study Report of the Natural Gas Supply from Kovykta Gasfield in Irkutsk in Russia to China and Korea passed the evaluation of the experts from China, Russia and Korea in Moscow. This pipeline will be constructed by CNPC, Russian Rusia Petroleum Co. Ltd., Korea Gas Corporation (Korea) and British Petroleum (BP). Nov. 21 PetroChina's Tarim Oilfield Company announced that the Yilake structure, which is located in the north of Tarim Basin, was essentially proved to be a 100-million-ton oil and gas field with possible oil in place of 79.427 million tons and gas in place of 100.66 billion cubic meters. Nov. 29 The 600-thousand-ton fuel ethanol project in Jilin, which was invested by CNPC, was completed and put on stream in Jilin, Jilin Province. Nov. 29 CNPC won the bidding for two risk exploration blocks in Algeria: Block 102a-112 in Chelif Basin and Block 350 in Oued Mya Basin.
December Dec. 23 A major well blowout accident occurred in well Luojia H16 of CNPC's Chongqing gasified, a causing serious casualties and the loss of property. All CNPC departments immediately implemented emergency rescue measures to minimize the losses and impacts caused by this accident after it happened. The "12.23" blowout accident made the whole company highly aware of the importance of safe production.
