We have now established a backbone network of oil and gas pipelines across the country, together with relatively sophisticated pipeline networks in some regions of China.
By the end of 2007, our oil and gas pipelines in China totaled 39,316 kilometers in length, including 12,463 kilometers for crude oil, 4,622 kilometers for oil products, and 22,231 kilometers for natural gas. CNPC also liaised with railway and pipeline transportation agencies to ensure smooth oil and gas production and downstream operations in our refineries.
We built six oil and gas pipelines in Sudan, Kazakhstan and other countries and regions and now operate 5,170 kilometers of overseas pipelines, which can transport 52 million metric tons of oil and 5.2 billion cubic meters of natural gas every year.
In 2007, a number of major oil and gas pipelines were completed and put into operation, as well as a series of storage facilities, such as:
The Western Pipeline consisting of two large-diameter pipelines running in the same channel, one for refined products and the other for crude oil. The 1,858km-long products trunk (from Urumqi to Lanzhou, which was put into operation in October 2006) and the 1,562km-long crude trunk were designed with an annual deliverability of 10 million metric tons and 20 million metric tons respectively.
The Dagang-Zaozhuang Products Pipeline was designed to transport three million metric tons of products per year. The trunk runs from Dagang Petrochemical in Tianjin to Zaozhuang City in Shandong Province. Along its route, the pipeline has four branches — the Dezhou, Feicheng, and Zaozhuang branches completed at the end of 2006, and the Jinan Branch completed in June 2007.
The Lanzhou-Yinchuan Gas Pipeline consists of the Lanzhou-Yinchuan Trunk and the Baiyin Branch. The trunk is 401.5 kilometers long and has a designed transportation capacity of 3.5 billion cubic meters per year.
The Daqing-Harbin Gas Pipeline is 78 kilometers long and has a designed transportation capacity of 5 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year. It is one of the major sections of the planned northeastern gas pipeline network.
Beijing Oil & Gas Pipeline Control Center
Beijing Oil & Gas Pipeline Control Center was established in March 2007 and put into operation after the SCADA systems were integrated on schedule. Its primary and standby control centers can simultaneously monitor the operation of all our long-distance pipelines and collect their data. With the control center, we can centrally dispatch and control the operation of our pipelines to ensure their safe, steady and efficient long-term operation.
By the end of 2007, all our 29 operational long-distance oil and gas pipelines in China were brought into nationwide dispatching, operating, monitoring and control by Beijing Oil & Gas Pipeline Control Center. These 22,000km-long pipelines include 12 level-1 pipelines and 17 level-2 ones. There are 14 for gas, three for refined products and 12 for crude oil, consisting of 272 stations and yards, and 664 valve housings.
