CNPC reinforced its global leadership position in onshore data acquisition, and actively promoted its geophysical prospecting business in offshore regions, delivering considerably increased offshore prospecting operations.
In 2007, 55 seismic crews were put into operation in 26 countries including Libya, Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Venezuela, Pakistan and Algeria. Significant results were obtained in developing the market of new overseas blocks. We entered Uganda, Tanzania, Madagascar and Kenya, and extended the East African market. The seismic data obtained included 55,661 kilometers of 2D lines and 27,852 square kilometers of 3D profiles.
In 2007, Vibroseis-based efficient acquisition was widely applied in North Africa and the Middle East. In Libya, CNPC won a high-fidelity vibroseis 3D seismic acquisition contract from WAHA Oil Co. and conducted TFEM (Total Field Electromagnetics) tests for Italy’s Eni S.p.A. With tri-component seismic prospecting technologies, we explored new markets in the Middle East. We signed the first tri-component time-shift seismic prospecting contract with OXY Oman Inc. In 2007, we made a breakthrough in deep-sea data processing. We completed our first shipborne processing project: the 3D deep-sea prospecting project in Ghana. The BGP Surveyor conducted deep-sea towed seismic streamer and acquisition projects in the Red Sea of Saudi Arabia and Myanmar.
We also made progress in geophysical prospecting equipment upgrade. Our large-tonnage, controlled seismic source KZ-30 has been widely applied in certain exploration regions in Kazakhstan, Myanmar, Mozambique, and other countries. In 2007 GEO-EAST was upgraded to V1.2. Now that it possesses more sophisticated functions, it is ready for massive deployment and application. We developed GPS timing telemetric seismograph, digital blaster, an OBC secondary positioning system, an optical fiber hydrophone-based towed streamer system, and seabed 4C seismic cable system with independently owned intellectual property rights |
