On behalf of CNPC, I would like to extend my best wishes to our employees and their families, and express our gratitude and best wishes to everyone who has supported the development of CNPC.
Last year was an extraordinary one for CNPC. We encountered a number of major events, as well as some unexpected, unprecedented and major challenges. We introduced the goal of building CNPC into an integrated international energy company. While we continued to pursue our strategy of increasing resources, expanding markets and seeking a greater international role, we made new achievements in both upstream and downstream operations, as evidenced by a number of new discoveries and breakthroughs in oil/gas exploration, the stable growth of crude oil output, a significant increase in natural gas output, the sustained rise of crude runs and refined products, an expansion of overseas business, and smooth progress in major projects.
In 2008, we will continue to follow our principle of "Caring for energy, caring for you", set our goal and mission as to build an integrated international energy corporation, and to provide stable domestic oil & gas supply. We will grasp opportunities for development, actively face challenges, and pursue our strategic goals of seeking more resources, expanding our markets, implementing internationalization, strengthening our capacity for sustainable development, and improving our capabilities in terms of resource security, efficiency, technological innovation, management, internal control, and human-resource development. By actively promoting the construction of an energy-conservation and environmentally friendly corporation, we shall take further steps in scientific and sustainable development; also make greater contributions to the nation's energy security and the building of a well-off society.
New technological advances have also been made. Our “three-year” safe operation and environmental protection goals have been fulfilled. The working and living conditions of our employees, as well as the company’s internal and external operational environment, continued to be improved. Among the world’s top 50 oil companies, CNPC jumped from 7th to 5th place and won the People’s Social Responsibility Award for the third year in a row.
We will face a tougher year in 2009, with dramatic changes in the world economy and the global oil market, especially following the outbreak of the global financial crisis, which will have quite an impact on CNPC. We must face these challenges with increased confidence and seize this strategic opportunity. We must never waver in the pursuit of our goal of building an integrated international energy company, focusing on oil and gas business, and enhancing reforms and governance. We will continue to stick to our strategy of strengthening resource exploration both at home and abroad, perfecting our marketing skills, accelerating the construction of our major oil/gas projects, and speeding up the development of international businesses, to sustain oil/gas output growth and build our supply capacity. We need to accelerate the change of our growth model and deepen market-based restructuring and reforms. Besides, we will work hard on investment control, cost reduction, quality improvement, safe operation and environmental protection to keep CNPC on the course of scientific and harmonious development.
In the new year, in a pioneering and unwavering spirit, we will continue our pursuit of scientific development, reforms and opening, and step up our efforts to build an integrated international energy company, honor our economic, political and social responsibilities and make new contributions to sound and rapid development of the national economy to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the foundation of New China.
In closing, I wish you a happy life and good health. |
