CNPC Institute of Drilling Engineering and Technologies successfully developed the CGDS-I Near-bit Geosteering Drilling System on 28 December, making CNPC only the fourth company in the world to own such technology.

The CGDS-I Near-bit Geosteering Drilling System combines drilling, logging and oil reservoir engineering technologies. Besides guiding functions, it is capable of measuring engineering and geological parameters during drilling.
