Training and Development

CNPC respects the personalities and interests of employees and pays attention to their career plans. Through the skills cultivation, selection and allocation mechanism, we try to create a suitable development channel for every employee.
 
We have established an effective training network and remote education network, through which we provide lifelong education to our employees.

Besides training, we also provide vocational education. A technician training system is occupied to train frontline teams and cultivate highly skilled staff. For management and technical personnel, we focus on the enhancement of their management and innovative capabilities; for operating personnel, we try to enhance their operational skills; and for overseas employees, we mainly provide training in language skills, cross-culture communication, and international market operations.

In 2010, the headquarters organized 133 training programs in business management, HSE, oil and gas exploration and development and engineering construction, involving 20,000 trainees included senior and middle management, technological experts, technicians and operatives. Occupational skill competitions were held covering oil production, ethylene unit operation, metal structure manufacturing, well drilling and well control, with the winners receiving promotion. We also held training courses in foreign languages such as Arabic, Spanish and Persian, and sent 190 staff to the US, Russia and other foreign countries to receive professional training. The Kazakhstan project company spent RMB 5 million to help outstanding local youth receive education in prestigious universities in China, Kazakhstan and other countries.

In 2009, 21classes were organzied by the headquarters for the 19 major types of technical jobs to train more than 800 highly skilled personnel. In 2008, we provided specialized training to nearly 1,000 senior management personnel, 15,000 key staff and nearly 700 technicians. 32 senior management personnel were sent overseas for EMBA education and 63 key staff were selected to attend foreign-related audit and finance training.
