We have also sponsored the 1st Chinese Cross-country Tournament and the College Badminton Championship. |
| | Supplying Clean Fuel to the Olympic Games
On May 30, 2005, CNPC signed an agreement with the organizing committee of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, indicating that the company formally became a partner of the Beijing Olympics in the field of oil and natural gas. Our company was the only energy supplier for all six competition areas.
On November 11, 2005, 1,000 days before the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics, the Mascot Announcement and Thousand Day Countdown Ceremony was held in Beijing Workers' Stadium. Our company was the sole sponsor of this ceremony, the first example of a company co-organizing an Olympic cultural event. We made full use of the opportunity of working with the Beijing Olympics to demonstrate our corporate values and high-quality service.
CNPC, as the only energy supplier to the 2008 Olympics, provided fuel support for the torch relay and quality natural gas for the Games, and also guaranteed the gas supply for Olympic venues in Beijing, Shanghai, Qingdao, Tianjin, Shenyang and Qinhuangdao. Twenty CNPC employees took part in the 2008 Olympic Torch Relay before the opening of the Games.
Moreover, the second Shaan-Jing Gas Pipeline built by CNPC can supply 5 billion cubic meters of natural gas to Beijing annually, equal to 6.68 million tons of coal. This helped to ensure that Beijing realized the goal of a "Green Olympics" and successfully hosted the Games.
To provide clean fuel meeting international standards during the 2008 Olympics, the company accelerated the upgrading of refining equipment and improved the quality of oil products in 2007. G-IV series quality diesel produced by Daqing Petrochemical Company and Liaoyang Petrochemical Company is now available on the Beijing market. Two projects-the reconstruction of a 200kt/a hydrogenation unit for catalysis gasoline at Dalian Petrochemical Company and the upgrading of gasoline quality at Dagang Petrochemical Company-were completed, which meant that EURO-IV standard gasoline was available for the 2008 Beijing Olympics. During the Games, the company provided compressed natural gas for 600-800 special buses.
Sponsorship of the First China Car Rally
On July 6, 2005, sponsored by CNPC, the "PetroChina Cup" International Car Rally started.
This event was the largest long-distance car rally hosted by the China Automobile Association. In the five-day rally, held under the slogan of "Power for Longer", a total of 24 teams, 48 cars, 96 racers and 52 maintenance vehicles covered over 2,000 kilometers. CNPC and PetroChina Lubricant Company acted as service providers for the rally and greatly contributed to its success.
Sponsorship of the Ninth National Badminton Tournament for College Students
