Oil Pavilion of the Shanghai World Expo

The World Expo has various kinds of pavilions for countries, themes and international organizations. Corporate pavilions were first present at the Chicago World Expo in 1933, and have since become a major attraction. The Shanghai World Expo plans 16 pavilions for both foreign and domestic enterprises. Twelve central SOEs will build six pavilions either in cooperation with firms in the same industry or alone.

On March 13, 2008, China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), China Petrochemical Corporation (Sinopec) and China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) confirmed their participation in World Expo 2010 and said they would jointly build an oil pavilion. Located in zone D, the pavilion will have a total area of 6,200 square meters, and consist of three exhibition areas. On April 20, 2009, the groundbreaking ceremony was held. On July 11, it became the first corporate pavilion at Expo 2010 to have its main structure completed, with the entire pavilion expected to be finished by February 2010.
