Communication & Cooperation
CNPC is actively enhancing its cooperation and communication with domestic and foreign counterparts, and has established long-term partnerships with domestic and foreign universities, colleges and research organizations.

 Domestic Technology Communication and Cooperation

CNPC has established long-term partnerships with renowned universities and colleges in China. These include the joint establishment of laboratories and launching the "Importing Program of Scientific and Technological Talents", "International Science and Technology Cooperation Program", "Innovation Fund Program of Petroleum Science and Technology for the Young and Middle-Aged", etc.

In 2006, the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) became CNPC's long-term partner in the fields of developing new exploration theories and methods, EOR technologies, refining and chemical catalysts, new polymers, natural gas conversion, new energy, and high-tech R&D and applications.

One example of the partnership is "Scientific Research Well No.1 in the Songliao Basin", one of the projects featured in China's National Basic Research Program. It aims at researching major geological events in the global surface system during the Cretaceous period and studying climate change.

 International Technology Communication and Cooperation

In 2009, CNPC worked with a number of research organizations and foreign oil companies in the USA, Europe and so on, such as Stanford University, Statoil and Gazprom in 30 international cooperation projects.

In 2006, CNPC worked with a number of research organizations in Canada and the UK in ten international cooperation projects including Reservoir Description and Dynamic Monitoring, Developing of a High-Resolution Smart Detecting System for Pipelines, Industrial Technologies of Di-TMP, etc.

In 2005, CNPC cooperated with research organizations in Canada, the UK, and the USA in research projects on Recognition Technologies of Fractured Reservoirs by Longitudinal Waves (Phase 3), Dynamic Reservoir Monitoring (Phase 2), Integration of Seismic Data Static Correction and Prestack Migration Imaging, High-Resolution Smart Detecting System for Pipelines, Processing and Utilization Technologies of Crude Oil Synthesized with Oil-sand Bitumen, Environmental Recovery Technologies of Petroleum Pollution, Study on the Integration of Heavy Oil Extraction Technologies in Liaohe Oilfield, Geology-Geochemical Research of High-acid Heavy Oil Reservoirs, Research on Risk Evaluation Technologies of Oil and Gas Tubings (Strings), Research and Manufacture of Vertical Drilling Systems, etc.

In 2004, CNPC worked with HIS Energy Corporation and completed the research on "Natural Gas Strategy Drafting, Modeling, and Development Optimization ". A planning model of natural gas strategy was established and a working platform for the overall optimization of upstream, midstream, and downstream was built. At the same time, CNPC worked with Schlumberger and Stanford University to tackle technical challenges such as the exploration of lithologic reservoirs and the development of low-permeability and heavy oil reservoirs.

In 2003, CNPC worked with China University of Petroleum and the British Geological Survey (BGS) in the research of "Recognition Technologies of Fractured Reservoirs by Longitudinal Waves" and the development of fracture predicting software.
