| | | Oil Geology Research Leading to New Discoveries in African Bangor Basin | | The Bangor Basin is a highly risky exploration block in Africa. Within this seldom-surveyed area, explorers have been challenged by intensified later tectonic inversions and wide igneous rock development that impact on seismic acquisition quality. Thanks to many innovative outcomes from CNPC's pioneering research, these exploration challenges have been addressed. - For exploration in overseas risk exploration projects, a guideline, methodology, and evaluation system called "basin and zone selection, and quick discovery" has been created and perfected, resulting in the identification of the topmost basin for exploration breakthroughs.
- Reservoir formation mode for rift basins with intensified inversions has been established and the major reservoir formation assembly has been identified, laying a theoretical foundation for major discoveries.
- In order to challenge the myth that basins only contain seriously damaged reservoirs and hard-to-tap heavy oil reservoirs, our researchers set out to find high-quality massive reserves and economically recoverable reserves. In particular, the discovery of massive high-quality reserves has been guaranteed by the integrated use of optimal target selection techniques.
The innovative evaluation methodology system for foreign basins with low-degree of prospecting, the hydrocarbon reservoir formation theory in rift basins with intensified inversions, and the integrated use of optimal target selection techniques created in the study have practically guided exploration and resulted in major discoveries. | | |
