CNPC has successfully developed a multipole array acoustic logger (MPAL), which can simultaneously carry out monopole, dipole and quadrupole measurement. It has significant values in deriving reservoir porosity, analysis of rock mechanics, fracture identification, anisotropy evaluation, and appraisal of fracturing effects. This has provided important means of hydrocarbon layer identification and reservoir evaluation in complex reservoirs.

Containing five Chinese invention and utility model patents, 50 MPAL units have been produced, and delivered remarkable results in domestic applications. Moreover, the MPAL has entered the international well-logging service market. This reliable apparatus outputs repeatable and consistent logging data. As one of the most advanced pieces of imaging logging apparatus, it will play an important role in hydrocarbon exploration and development.
