1. General Introduction

Based on the introduced advanced equipments and technologies from Japan, Germany, Italy and US, China has developed its own technologies and equipments for the manufacture of casing, tubing, drill pipe, heavy weight drill pipe, drill collar and kelly covering steel making, pipe making, heat treatment, upset processing, threading and NDT (Nondestructive Testing).

CPTDC can provide all kinds of oil country tubular goods and internal coating services for casing, tubing and drill pipe, and hardbanding for drill pipe and heavy weight drill pipe.

Casing, tubing, drill pipe, heavy weight drill pipe, drill collar and kelly made in China have been not only widely used in domestic oil and gas development, but also served in and highly desired by other countries such as Venezuela, Cuba, Pakistan, India, Indonesia, Burma, Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Sudan and Algeria.

Up to now, China has established an annual production capability of 3, 880, 000 tons (4, 268, 000 US tons) of casing and tubing, 500, 000 tons (550, 000 US tons) of drill pipe and 50, 000 pieces of kelly, heavy weight drill pipe, drill collar, and non-magnetic drill collar.

Casing and Tubing

In recent years, the Chinese manufactures have cooperated with universities and research centers in the research on casing and tubing and have gained many good results. The product quality has been greatly improved. Many types of special casings and tubings including anticorrosion casing and tubing, high collopse casing, high temperature casing, premium connection casing and tubing have been successively developed some of which have reached the level of world class.

Internal Coating for Casing & Tubing

Generally, the internal coating for casing and tubing is made of optimized epoxy phenolic resin. It has high impact and temperature resistance, perfect edge coverage, extremely high glossiness and flexibility, and excellent adhesion and abrasion resistance. The combination of epoxy and phenolic formulations provides the superior molecular interlinkage, and also the same bend resistance and torque resistance as metal. The internal coating for casing and tubing is suitable for extremely corrosive or high temperature environment, such as chemical treatment wells, high temperature and high pressure corrosive wells. What’s more, it can provide the capability of resistance to scale, pitch and paraffin so as to promote flow efficiency.

3. Drill Pipe and Associated Products

Drill Pipe

CPTDC can provide the drill pipe manufactured in accordance with API Spec 5D, API Spec 7, and API RP 7G. The steel grades include E75, X95, G105 and S135. The chemical composition of the steel is properly designed and strictly controlled.

CPTDC can also supply special drill pipes such as sour service drill pipe, low temperature drill pipe and high torque resistance drill pipe with double-shoulder tool joints (DSTJ).

Hardbanding is used for the external surface of tool joint to improve the abrasion resistance of drill pipe and casing, reduce the friction between the tool joint and casing. Hardbanding can effectively protect the drill pipe and casing, prolong the life of drill pipe and casing and increase the security of drilling operation.

4. Heavy Weight Drill Pipe

General

Heavy weight drill pipe is an intermediate-weight drill string element. It can effectively reduce the stress between drill pipe and drill collar and provide part of drill pressure.

The integral heavy weight drill pipe is made from AISI 4145H alloy steel and is fully heat treated. The tool joints of welded heavy weight drill pipe are made from AISI 4145H alloy steel too. All physical properties conform to API Spec 7. Every drill pipe is fully inspected by an ultrasonic unit (at full length and over full section). The standard hardbanding is on the pipe connections and center upset. On the pipe ends, it is 4-inch wide hard metal, while


on the center upset, it is 3-inch wide hard metal. The hardbanding is completely flush on either side of the connection. The thickness of the hardbanding is not more than 3.2 mm (l/8 in) compared to that of the adjacent pipe surface. The thickness may be specified by customers.
